‘She’s a Rockstar:’ GMs Shoutout Their Night Auditors

Written by Jason Q. Freed | May 14, 2024 4:08:11 PM

Ask many of today’s leaders across hospitality how they got their start in the business, and a common answer you will receive is as a night auditor. Overnight, night auditors juggle multiple roles – front-desk agent, security, accountant, bartender – often leading to a deep understanding of the property and the hospitality business as a whole. It’s a stepping-stone role and, with experience, night auditors can transition into management positions and beyond.

While there may be some down time during the wee hours of the night, the night auditor job is not easy. Night auditors handle the oddest guest issues throughout the night while managing critical business data from the day, ensuring financial accuracy and compliance. Despite their pivotal role in preparing for a smooth day ahead, third shift means their efforts often go unnoticed.

Otelier is out to change that. In 2023, we dedicated May 18 as Night Auditor Appreciation Day, a time for GMs and regional leaders to come together and show support for the unsung heroes of hospitality.

This year, we expanded the celebration to include a Night Auditor of the Year award, and nominations are rolling in. On Friday, May 17, live during the Friday Night Audit podcast, we’ll draw one nomination and proclaim the recipient 2024 Night Auditor of the Year.

Does your night auditor go above and beyond and deserve recognition for their continuous efforts to keep your property running smoothly? Nominations for 2024 are being accepted until noon on Friday, May 17. Nominate your colleague here.

What Hoteliers are Saying About their Night Auditors

Robert Suarez, Trump International Beach Resort
“Robert is amazing and has a passion for what he does. He has everyone's back no matter what. He goes above and beyond. Guests as well as team members love and respect him.”

Athanasia Korosidis, Jiten Hotel Management
“Reliable, dependable, professional, picks up shifts whenever asked, and trains all new audit hires. She is a rockstar!”

Melvin Greybull, Dhillonco Hotels
“Melvin is our firefighter – he will work in all departments when needed. Melvin will be the first to pick up any shifts and work days straight without blinking. He is awesome!”

Gayle Della, Moxy Virginia Beach Oceanfront
“Gayle goes above and beyond by getting morning shift ready to start their day with everything stocked, even if it means staying late to do so. She also volunteered to come in early so I wasn’t doing a turnaround shift last month.”

Paul Souza, San Diego Marriott La Jolla
“Wow, I don't know where to even begin on how much our Night Auditor, Paul Souza, means to our hotel. Paul has been working with our property for 12 years. I can't imagine where our team would be if it weren't for the hard work and dedication from him.”

Naomi Israel, Element Dallas Richardson Hotel
“Naomi has been in our company since we opened in October 2021. Being a single mom, studying for school and having another job all at the same time, Naomi is very reliable. Since we hired her, she only called in once when she was sick.”

Anna Scott, Hilton Melbourne Beach Oceanfront
“She is the closest thing to Tony Starks with the Avengers.”

Breann Sampson, Holiday Inn Savannah Gateway
“Diligently returns to work with a smile on her face, ready to face the night ahead. Goes above and beyond for guests and her co- workers. Always has new ideas and ready to brainstorm the best way to handle any situation or task.”
