Ask many of today’s leaders across hospitality how they got their start in the business, and a common answer you will receive is as a night auditor. Overnight, night auditors juggle multiple roles – front-desk agent, security, accountant, bartender – often leading to a deep understanding of the property and the hospitality business as a whole. It’s a stepping-stone role and, with experience, night auditors can transition into management positions and beyond.
While there may be some down time during the wee hours of the night, the night auditor job is not easy. Night auditors handle the oddest guest issues throughout the night while managing critical business data from the day, ensuring financial accuracy and compliance. Despite their pivotal role in preparing for a smooth day ahead, third shift means their efforts often go unnoticed.
Otelier is out to change that. In 2023, we dedicated May 18 as Night Auditor Appreciation Day, a time for GMs and regional leaders to come together and show support for the unsung heroes of hospitality.
This year, we expanded the celebration to include a Night Auditor of the Year award, and nominations are rolling in. On Friday, May 17, live during the Friday Night Audit podcast, we’ll draw one nomination and proclaim the recipient 2024 Night Auditor of the Year.
Does your night auditor go above and beyond and deserve recognition for their continuous efforts to keep your property running smoothly? Nominations for 2024 are being accepted until noon on Friday, May 17. Nominate your colleague here.
